発売前の新作PCゲームを試遊できる「Steam Game Festival: Spring Edition」Steamにて期間限定で開催中。約50タイトルが対象

発売前の新作PCゲームを試遊できるデジタルコンシューマイベント「Steam Game Festival: Spring Edition」が、Steamにて本日3月19日から開始した。開催期間は日本時間3月24日午前2時まで。

イベント期間中には、以下の対象タイトルのデモ版が各Steamストアページから無料でダウンロード可能で、好きなだけプレイできる。いずれも発売前あるいは発売されたばかりの新作だ。そして開催期間が終了するとプレイ不可となる。なお以下のリストは、後述する出展予定だったイベントなどに分けて掲載している。

Steam Game Festivalは、The Game Awardsの創設者・司会として知られるGeoff Keighley氏が旗振り役を務めて実現。2019年12月に初めて開催され、当時は14本の未発売作品のデモがプレイできたが、今回は約50タイトルと一気にラインナップが拡充した。Keighley氏の想いとして、もともとは世界各地でおこなわれるゲームイベントに足を運ぶことができないゲーマーにも、そうしたイベントの恩恵をオンラインを通じて届けるために、このイベントが誕生したという経緯がある（関連記事）。

ただ、今回はそうした理念に加えて、世界中で猛威を振るう新型コロナウイルスの影響もあるようだ。今年2月末のPAX Eastこそ予定どおり開催されたものの、その後GDCやThe Media Indie Exchange（The MIX）、Day of the Devsといったゲームイベントが開催延期・中止。そうしたイベントに出展予定だった多数のインディーデベロッパーが、露出を得たりゲーマーに実際に触れてもらう貴重な機会を失った。またGDCには、インディーゲームを集めて展示するIndie MEGABOOTHも出展予定だった。今回のSteam Game Festival: Spring Editionでは、そうした影響を受けたタイトルからラインナップに選出したとのことだ。

「Steam Game Festival: Spring Edition」は、日本時間3月24日午前2時まで開催中だ。この機会に、気になっていたタイトルや興味を引いた作品を片っ端からプレイしておこう。なおGeoff Keighley氏によると、同様のイベントは年内にさらに複数回計画されており、またさらなるプラットフォームでの開催にも取り組んでいるところだそうだ。
