Japanese indie game circle USAGI STORE has released a free Steam demo for its upcoming 2D horror adventure game Dawn Bell. Coinciding with the demo’s release was the announcement of the title’s release date, slated for June 23.
Dawn Bell follows an amnesiac girl who wakes up in a mysterious castle. With no memories to go off, you make use of the items and clues you come across to solve the mansion’s many puzzles and uncover more about your past. You’ll also encounter an amnesiac boy who joins you and helps you on your journey. As the two progress deeper into the castle, your choices and actions can lead to four possible endings.
The castle interiors are quite ominous, ranging from dark libraries housing grotesque creatures to hallways with moving eyes in the walls. Further reinforcing the horror atmosphere are the characters’ facial expressions (which are animated using Live2D) and haunting tracks.
With a playtime of approximately 90-120 minutes to get all the endings, Dawn Bell is on the short side. However, its combination of puzzle solving and horror elements mixed with the overarching mysteries surrounding the castle and main characters will have you scouring each area in search of all the answers.
Dawn Bell is set to release on Windows (Steam) on June 23. A free demo is also available on the platform.
