Cosmic horror investigation game The Colour Beyond: A Zeroth Kind gets Steam playtest. Prevent your own death with the power to infiltrate minds

The playtest will run until November 12, 2026.

Chinese indie developer Infigo Games has launched a playtest for its upcoming cosmic horror adventure The Colour Beyond: A Zeroth Kind. Available on PC via Steam, the playtest is scheduled to run until November 12. The game was originally showcased at the ChinaJoy 2026 expo in July.

The Colour Beyond: A Zeroth Kind follows a fourth-year university student who visits the remote Haidong Island as part of a graduation trip, only to receive a strange vision foretelling their death ten days in the future. After gaining the mysterious ability to enter and influence other people’s minds, the protagonist must uncover the truth behind the island’s strange phenomena while racing against time to prevent their predicted demise.

Taking inspiration from Square Enix’s cult mystery adventure series Paranormasight, The Colour Beyond: A Zeroth Kind features 360-degree panoramic environments. Rather than moving through side-scrolling scenes or fully 3D environments, players can rotate their view around detailed backgrounds to inspect their surroundings from various angles.

The core mechanic of manipulating people’s thoughts and perceptions comes in handy while investigating the island and its residents, as the player must collect clues represented as cards, which can be presented to alter a target’s predetermined fate.

These newfound powers come at a cost, however, as repeated use can mutate and distort the protagonist’s perception of reality. Players will be forced to balance their search for the truth against the risk of losing their humanity while confronting increasingly incomprehensible horrors.

The playtest for The Colour Beyond: A Zeroth Kind is available now on PC (Steam). While the current playtest version of the game supports English and Simplified Chinese, Infigo Games has confirmed that the full release is planned to include Japanese language support. A release date has not yet been announced.
