Japanese indie creator’s “cute but mind-eroding” horror adventure Nightmare Journey 1135 challenges you to escape an endless twisted dream

Japanese indie horror adventure game Nightmare Journey 1135 is scheduled to release on Steam in 2027.

Gotcha Gotcha Games, video game publisher and subsidiary of Japan’s entertainment giant Kadokawa, has just announced its brand-new horror adventure title Nightmare Journey 1135, scheduled to release in 2027 via Steam.

Developed by Japanese creator yaigi, Nightmare Journey 1135 follows the story of protagonist “Shi,” who suffers from terrible nightmares every night. One day, a bird Shi previously saw in a dream appears before them in the real world, and each time they start chasing it, the protagonist ends up stepping into an actual nightmare. In the end, Shi is killed, but the nightmare doesn’t seem to stop there.

Inspired by the nostalgia of old freeware titles, the game lets you explore a cute but twisted world rendered in dreamy-looking pixel art. In an “escape-the-room” kind of scenario (or rather, escape-the-dream), Nightmare Journey 1135 features plenty of puzzles scattered throughout the surreal map that you will need to solve in order to escape the terror. As per the game’s Steam store page, these gameplay elements will be tightly tied to the main story revolving around “distorted relationships” between characters. Of course, the game being a horror title means you won’t be able to escape from some gore and shocking imagery, but that’s also a part of the “mind-eroding” experience.

Nightmare Journey 1135 is scheduled to release for PC (Steam) in 2027, with Japanese, English and Chinese language support.
