Blue Archive producer Yong-ha Kim says Nexon is enthusiastic about expanding the IP, hints at possible TPS, survival or SRPG spin-off
Following the handover of Blue Archive's publishing rights from Yostar to Nexon in Japan, producer Yongha Kim talks about the title's future.

Video game publisher Yostar announced on October 25 that it would be handing over the Japanese publishing rights for the live-service RPG Blue Archive to its developer, Nexon. Going forward, all aspects of development, live operations, publishing, and promotion of the game in Japan – one of the game’s biggest markets – will be handled directly by Nexon, much like the domestic and international releases of the game.
In a recent interview with Korean news site Game Focus, Blue Archive producer Yong-ha Kim expressed his enthusiasm regarding the change, saying that there are many things he wants to do with the IP.
In particular, Kim mentioned that, going forward, Nexon will be looking to expand Blue Archive into a multimedia project, producing manga, novels, and even other genres of games that could boost the visibility of the IP.

Although there are no concrete plans yet, Kim has also expressed hope to explore the much-requested third person shooting genre, as well as a deserted island survival game, or even an SRPG featuring Blue Archive characters.
“There’s a lot of enthusiasm within our team when it comes to these kinds of projects. To make this a reality, we need both a solid rationale and the right conditions, so I’m constantly thinking about how we can prepare for it, and I’m always on the outlook for the right opportunity,” Kim explained. (Please note that this is based on machine translation, so exact nuances should be taken with a grain of salt).

Aside from Blue Archive, Kim also said he was also interested in further developing the Fareidolia IP. Fareidolia, previously known as Project RX, is an upcoming 3D anime title developed by Nexon’s IO division, said to offer a “completely different experience from Blue Archive.” While little is known about the gameplay yet, what we’ve learned so far about the isekai setting and its colorful cast of characters already makes decent groundwork for future media developments.
With Nexon having more control over Blue Archive, especially when it comes to marketing and media expansion aspects, it will be interesting to see how the IP evolves going forward.
