BlazBlue: Central Fiction is getting a new playable character after 9 years

The official reveal is scheduled before the start of the BlazBlue: Central Fiction Top 8 Finals at this weekend’s EVO 2026 in Las Vegas.

It’s been 11 years since BlazBlue: Central Fiction first graced Japanese arcades and 9 years since the release of its supposedly final DLC character, Jubei. Given the stagnant roster, it comes as a big surprise that Arc System Works has plans for a new playable character to be added to the game, as announced during the studio’s June 2026 showcase.

To be fair, this was an announcement of an announcement. The official reveal is scheduled before the start of the BlazBlue: Central Fiction Top 8 Finals at this weekend’s EVO 2026 in Las Vegas. According to update producer Riku Ozawa, development on the new character was just settled on recently, which is why the teaser showed no gameplay footage. While we’ll have to wait until this weekend to know the fighter’s identity, Ozawa hinted that they have appeared in previous BlazBlue games.

Unfortunately, while BlazBlue: Central Fiction is available on several platforms, the Japanese version of the teaser video states that only the PlayStation 4 and Steam versions will be getting the new character.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is available in arcades (Japan only), PlayStation 3 and 4, Nintendo Switch, and Windows (Steam).
