Toei has revealed Arainami T081, an anime girl mascot representing the signature movie opening sequence that plays at the start of Toei- distributed films (the intro features the company logo against waves crashing on rocks).
The character was unveiled on October 8, or “Toei Day,” as part of the new Toei Arainami Project branding initiative. As for why October 8 (10/8) was specifically chosen to be Toei Day – the numbers “10” and “8”can be pronounced as “To-ei” in Japanese. This is also why the digits 1, 0 and 8 are used in Arainami’s name to spell “TOEI” (T081).
Arainami T081 was illustrated by Ryosuke Takeuchi, who provided art for popular franchises such as Pokémon, Monster Hunter, and One Piece. The artist incorporated the opening sequence’s waves in the character’s hairstyle, while Toei’s triangular logo was represented through the character’s bracelet, earrings, and eyes (the full logo can also be seen on Arainami T081’s cap)
While the Toei Aranami Project’s previous designs include different takes on waves and the company logo, this is the first time they’ll be launching goods with an official anime-fied mascot.
