Following the announcement of Black Bullet: New World Order, creator Shiden Kanzaki broke his 11-year silence on X to address the last few posts he had made on the platform and discuss the new light novel reboot.
One of Kanzaki’s final X posts from 2015 spoke of the stress he was going through at the time. The hectic work schedule demanded of him by the 2014 Black Bullet show (which was both his and his editor’s first anime adaptation) left Kanzaki feeling overworked to the point that he experienced a “complete meltdown.” While a follow-up post from 2015 confirmed he was doing better, fans couldn’t help but worry for the creator, given he went on to virtually disappear from online spaces afterward.
In the 2026 update, Kanzaki reveals that, while his dream of getting an anime adaptation based on his work came true, he had lost sight of his goals and felt at a loss. His final X posts from 2015 were written after being freed from his grueling schedule, which left him feeling burnt out from the sudden change (which could explain Black Bullet’s 11-year hiatus). To put fans’ hearts at ease, he confirmed that everything has been sorted and he feels much better now.
On the topic of Black Bullet: New World Order, Kanzaki said that work on the light novel reboot has been going on for quite some time, but the announcement was significantly delayed due to “various circumstances.” All volumes of the original light novel have been revised to improve readability, with some undergoing “significant restructuring of the narrative,” as both aspects are impossible to separate from each other.
Kanzaki said that newcomers would be fine with either version of Black Bullet. However, considering how New World Order draws readers in with its writing, he “doesn’t think there’s much point” in reading the original light novel anymore.
While he considered removing the original light novel from digital bookstores, Kanzaki decided to keep it available as he didn’t feel it was right for him to dictate how readers should enjoy his work. He also mentioned that the original includes an afterword and comments, which readers might enjoy. That said, he plans on removing the original version of volume 7 from digital bookstores, as New World Order adds a new volume that rewrites the events of the original story.
Black Bullet: New World Order volumes 1 and 2 will be released simultaneously on November 10, with four consecutive monthly releases following afterward. Kanzaki also announced a brand-new work titled “The Essence of Evil,” which is scheduled to release in spring 2027. Details on the project are scarce, with him mentioning that it is a story he has “always wanted to tell.”
