Catching Meloetta in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet requires a ridiculously complicated process

Nintendo released The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on December 14. The new DLC continues where the story of Part 1: The Teal Mask left off and brings various new features. With the update, a certain rare Pokémon’s conditions for appearing in-game have been discovered, and the process is so complicated users found it hard to believe at first. Please note that the following article contains spoilers for The Indigo Disk.

The Indigo Disk features past Legendary Pokémon as well as Mythical Pokémon. Legendary Pokémon can be encountered by completing the story, acquiring the right treats from Snacksworth, and heading to designated locations. On the other hand, Mythical Pokémon don’t require treats, so you can encounter them even without completing the story, but since they don’t have designated locations, you must search for them yourself. Recently, users have been taken aback by the elaborate steps you need to take to encounter Meloetta.

Meloetta in The Indigo Disk

Meloetta is a Mythical Pokémon that first appeared in 2012, and with the release of The Indigo Disk, it’s finally become possible to catch it. But here’s what you need to do in order to encounter it – First, get to the Terrarium and fly to the Coastal Outdoor Classroom in the Coastal Biome. Then, proceed to the grassy field east of the Outdoor Classroom. In the field, you have to locate a whirlwind of leaves spinning clockwise. Stand in the center of the leaves and start spinning clockwise for about 10-20 seconds. When you’re done spinning, get your camera out and select the Sepia Filter. You should start hearing Meloetta’s Relic Song shortly, and you should be able to spot the Pokémon in your surroundings.

Upon learning of the unusual procedure, many users’ first reaction was to be skeptical about whether it’s even real, but doing this really does allow you to encounter the super rare Mythical Pokémon. In fact, the NPCs at Blueberry Academy drop several hints about the method, mentioning the field, the wind blowing and even “an unusual song” that can be heard.

Post translation: Meloetta really appeared…thank you for showing me the method. I kept thinking it was false info

That said, even with the hints provided, arriving at the correct solution is a challenge, especially with the Sepia Filter being a requirement. This is most likely a reference to a Meloetta event in Pokémon Black and White that mentions “sepia-toned memories.”

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available for the Nintendo Switch. The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC Part 1 and 2 have been released.
