Upcoming Blue Exorcist ARPG to feature brand-new story and fast-paced action  

Aniplex have announced that they are working on Alterna Welt: Blue Exorcist Gaiden, a new game based on the popular manga Blue Exorcist. The 3D action RPG will be released on PC (Steam) and mobile platforms (iOS/Android) in summer 2024. 

Blue Exorcist is a dark fantasy manga written and illustrated by Kazue Kato. The story centers around twin brothers Rin and Yukio Okumura as they and their allies strive to exorcise harmful demons. Debuting in JUMP SQ. back in 2009, the series quickly attracted a following with a 25-episode anime series airing in 2011. Since then, the series has spawned a number of spin-offs and continuations including a movie, stage plays, and novels. The original manga has now sold over 25 million copies and a new anime TV series is set to be broadcast in Japan in January 2024. 

Aniplex’s upcoming game based on the Blue Exorcist manga will apparently have a brand-new storyline and also feature new characters designed by the manga artist. Many fan favorites from the original series, including Rin and Yukio, will also appear in the game as playable characters. The trailer shows Rin and Yukio using their signature weapons to fight various monsters, with a third masked character wielding Japanese swords who seems to team up with them. It seems that this game will not only feature fast-paced action, but it will also faithfully replicate the manga’s art style. 

A previous game based on the series called Blue Exorcist: The Chronocyclic Labyrinth was released exclusively in Japan for the PSP back in 2012. It was later announced that a mobile game known as Blue Exorcist: DAMNED CHORD would be released in 2019. However, after suffering a series of delays, the game was later scrapped in 2020, with a new project known as Blue Exorcist X MORPG being announced at the same time. It seems that this project is what led to the recently announced Alterna Welt: Blue Exorcist Gaiden.  

Alterna Welt Blue Exorcist Gaiden is scheduled to release on PC (Steam) and iOS/Android in Summer 2024. It is not yet known what languages it will be available in.
