Publisher Microids released a teaser trailer for the videogame adaptation of UFO Robot Grendizer and announced that it will be released in 2023 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

This is an action game based on the 70’s hit anime adapted from Go Nagai’s manga series.  Microids announced in February this year that they had acquired the license to make a videogame based on this IP.

The anime version of UFO Robo Grendizer aired in the 70’s as part of the Mazinger series. The protagonist, Daisuke Umon (Duke Fleed), boards the Grendizer and fights against King Vega and his armies of flying saucers and robotic monsters, who seek to conquer the entire universe. The anime became a hit series not only in Japan, but also in countries such as Italy and France at the time. And now, Microids, a French-based publisher, is making a videogame adaptation.

The game will be developed by the French developer Endroad, “made up of experienced developers formerly at Ubisoft or Amplitude Studios.” Philippe “Golgoth71” Dessoly, who has worked as an official artist for UFO Robo Grendizer, will be assisting the creative efforts on the art style.

The teaser trailer shows the silhouette of Duke Fleed’s Grendizer, and a screenshot of it was also released. There is no word yet on what the game will be like, but let’s hope it’ll utilize Grendizer’s signature moves such as Screw Crusher Punch and Double Harken. Judging from one of the screenshots, it appears that Grendizer can fly in the flying saucer form as well.

Colomban Cicéron, game director and co-founder of Endroad, made the following comment:

“We have been working fervently on the Grendizer project, aiming at the highest quality to please the fans and the newcomers alike that didn’t get the chance to be introduced to Duke Fleed (Daisuke Umon in Japan) and his friends. This is such an abounding universe that deserves the most focused attention to detail. We are all fans of this IP we grew up with and we’re fully dedicated in providing players the game they’ve been dreaming about for decades. We are exceedingly grateful to be able to work on this IP and will do our very best to deliver an exceptional gaming experience.”

The videogame adaptation of UFO Robot Grendizer is scheduled to launch in 2023 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
