Anime production company Silver Link has reported an operating loss of 271 million JPY (roughly $1.7 million USD) for the fiscal year ending March 2026 (source: Gamebiz). While the loss hasn’t widened significantly compared to the previous fiscal year, this marks the studio’s third consecutive year of losses.
Founded in 2007, Silver Link is an anime studio under the Asahi Broadcasting Group and has worked on numerous manga and light novel anime adaptations as well as OVAs. Some of its most well-known titles include WataMote, Kokoro Connect and Strike the Blood, as well as the more recent Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!

While Silver Link’s latest financial results showed a substantial increase in revenue, rising by 32.1% year-on-year, it seems this was not enough to offset their operating losses. While the exact circumstances behind Silver Link’s situation are not known, the trend of “rising revenue, but diminishing profit margins” has been on the rise throughout Japan’s anime industry (according to research company Teikoku Databank), attributed to issues like prolonged production periods and skilled worker shortages.
Not long ago, Studio KAI – which is known for the second and third seasons of the Umamusume: Pretty Derby TV anime series, announced insolvency amidst a $3.54 million deficit.
