Witch Hat Atelier anime producer clears up misinformation about the show’s production period. It took 3 and a half years, not 7

The Witch Hat Atelier anime adaptation producer Hiroaki Kojima recently addressed inquiries about the show's actual production period.

The Witch Hat Atelier anime adaptation has certainly been worth the wait, faithfully recreating scenes from the manga using a stunning mix of 3D CGI and hand-drawn 2D animation. Though the project was launched internally as early as 2019, anime producer Hiroaki Kojima reveals that the actual production period was much shorter, contrary to rumors that have been circulating.

I’m often asked about the production period, so I can’t really go into details, but here’s a little behind-the-scenes information:

The anime adaptation was announced in 2022, but Bug Films wasn’t involved from the beginning. I officially joined the production in 2023, thanks to a fortunate connection. So, the actual production period was approximately 3 and a half years.

Even so, it was the most time-consuming project I’ve ever worked on, and I’m grateful to everyone on the production committee. What I’m trying to say is, I want all the fans to simply enjoy the work.

Before 2022, the Witch Hat Atelier anime project was handled by Avex Pictures and Kodansha. Production began in earnest once animation studio Bug Films signed onto the project.

Those who worked on the show went to great lengths to translate the manga’s intricate illustrations and themes into the anime medium, even consulting creator Kamome Shirahama to ensure that each part was faithfully adapted. This dedication to deliver the highest quality anime possible was one of the reasons why the anime was delayed from 2025 to 2026.

Three and a half years may be shorter than the rumored seven-year production period, but it is still a long time. While factors such as the type of show and the studio (s) involved affect a production period’s length, a typical 12-episode anime season usually takes about a year to make. Considering the first season of Witch Hat Atelier consists of 13 episodes, it took Bug Films more than thrice as long to create their latest anime.

    • The fuck are you on? Because obviously you’re doing some sort of drugs to believe that garbage ass conspiracy while severely lacking in brain cells, education and common fucking sense. It’s a surprise you’ve managed to make it this far without natural selection getting you.

  1. Do I thank the UN banked rolled this work to promote a agenda no. Did the author imply support for the UN and their censorship agenda yes. You can like the series but saying that this author doesn’t support the UN agenda is a brain dead take. Not to mention she thru legendary female creators under the bus which is something I found to be bs. I won’t support those that support censorship and this author does. The UN’s pro censorship stance of fiction is something I find disgusting.
