Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will release on September 4 instead of September 25, significantly moving up the originally announced date.
Following the shift in release schedule, the pre-order bonus – which contains the Lion Dog charm and Sealed Curse sword cosmetic – will become an early adopter bonus. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store, and Nintendo Switch 2 users have until September 24 at 11:59 pm local time to purchase the game and obtain the bonus, while Steam and Epic Games Store users have until September 25 at 4:59 pm PT.
The free demo that released last month will be updated to reflect the new release schedule, though the patch will not contain new content. Players who have save data from the demo will still be able to receive the promised in-game item in the full release.
Considering how many titles are coming out in the months of September and October, moving Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s release just as the madness begins could allow it to stand out more from the rest of the pack. That said, Onimusha’s long-standing legacy and the new game’s improved gameplay mean fan anticipation is at an all-time high.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to release on September 4 for Windows (Steam, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
