Touhou-inspired Korean bullet hell shooter Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage announced for Steam

Korean publisher CFK opened the Steam Store page for Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage on February 14. Developed by DeerFarm, the game’s release is planned for the second quarter of 2024 for the PC (Steam).

Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage is a vertical-scrolling bullet hell shoot ’em up featuring elements of Korean mythology. The game expands upon its 2017 predecessor Shikhondo: Soul Eater, and is set in a world swarmed by soul-eating Youkai who have broken free from Hell.

The protagonist, an anonymous girl, fights against the Youkai in search of her lost memories, and is accompanied by the Grim Reaper. Aside from an Arcade/Story mode, Shikhondo will have a Boss Rush mode that focuses on boss fights, a sudden-death option called Hardcore mode and a Dual mode in which you can switch between characters mid-play.

The game will feature a “Soul collecting” mechanic – by grazing bullets, you can collect souls to charge your Soul Gauge. Once charged, it can be used to launch an attack that nullifies enemy bullets for a moment.

Trailer footage reveals sleek graphics and attractive character designs, while gameplay appears to be inspired by the Touhou series. The developer warns of mild nudity in boss designs.

Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage is planned to release in the second quarter of 2024 for the PC (Steam).
