Japanese indie developer STUDIO909, led by story writer and game director Kazuhide Oka, has released a Steam demo for its upcoming time-loop mystery game Quiet Express: Cabin 909. The announcement was made alongside a new trailer reveal during The MIX Fall Showcase 2026.
In Quiet Express: Cabin 909, you board the titular Quiet Express, a transcontinental train scheduled to reach its final destination in seven days. However, on the seventh day, the train gets caught up in a terrible accident, killing every passenger and crew member on board. Instead of meeting your demise, however, you find yourself waking up inside the Quiet Express just as it was when it first departed. Time has wound back seven days, and you must find a way to prevent the fated accident before reaching the final station. As you go through a cycle of the same 7-day loop every time you die, you’ll gradually move closer to the truth.
Gameplay revolves around exploring the Quiet Express in search of an elusive “Cabin 909.” No such room is supposed to exist on the train, and none of the crew members or passengers know about it. As you navigate the train, you will meet other passengers, and by learning about their stories and completing their requests, the mystery will slowly unravel. Passengers aren’t limited to just humans, as you’ll be encountering beastmen, giants and homunculi who all bear their own anxieties and issues.

Exploration starts at the rear of the train, and as you progress towards the locomotive, the Quiet Express’s cars will rearrange based on a mix of chance and the choices you make. At each door, you’ll randomly draw three types of trains cars (such as passenger cars, dining cars or cargo cars) and choose which to enter next. All cabins are connected, and by changing the way that they are joined to each other, you may reach new places and learn news secrets. The items you discover through exploration may help you with progression in various ways. On your way, you’ll encounter locks, puzzles, secret attics, and other mysteries.

The newly released demo for the game offers approximately half an hour of gameplay, letting players explore multiple ways to prevent the Quiet Express’s derailment on the seventh day. The developers have also launched an official Discord server for the game, where gamers interested in the title can find updates and gameplay tips.
Quiet Express: Cabin 909’s development is headed by Kazuhide Oka, director of the “Overwhelmingly Positive” post-apocalyptic adventure games GIRLS MADE PUDDING and natsuno-kanata: Beyond The Summer. STUDIO909 was formed by Oka specifically for the development of this new project. While Quiet Express inherits the underlying chill and wanderlust of Oka’s previous work, it also draws inspiration from Blue Prince and Road 96 for a stronger mystery direction.
Quiet Express: Cabin 909 is scheduled to release in 2027 for PC (Steam), with support for English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
