Square Enix merger: “I am Setsuna” studio Tokyo RPG Factory folded into parent company

Tokyo RPG Factory has been merged with Square Enix. The studio is expected to be dissolved following the merger, as reported by gamebiz

Tokyo RPG Factory is a Japanese game studio established in 2015. It is a subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings specializing in developing RPGs. Tokyo RPG Factory developed and launched titles such as I am Setsuna, Lost Sphear, Oniaki, and others. In addition to pure turn-based RPGs, they have also worked on games with action elements, developing a unique style and portfolio through trial and error.

The company had reported 154 million yen in total losses in fiscal year 2020 and other periods, but  it has continuously been financially solvent in the past three fiscal years, achieving a profit of 56 million yen in 2023. However, it seems that the studio will now be merged with Square Enix and dissolved. Square Enix is to take over all of Tokyo RPG Factory’s rights and obligations.

Square Enix has been making alterations to its organization recently, changing its CEO and merging with Luminous Productions, another one of its subsidiaries, last year. It seems that they have decided to make a similar move with Tokyo RPG Factory. This might mean that Square Enix will inherit some of the studio’s unique “DNA.”
