Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC’s new Pokémon resemble Japanese folklore

The Pokémon Company has revealed the names of new Pokémon coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. The three Pokémon we were given a brief glimpse of during the Pokémon Presents | 2.27.2023showcase are called Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti.

In Part 1: The Teal Mask, the first of two DLC releases, players will visit the land of Kitakami on a school trip. Kitakami is overflowing with natural beauty and features a large mountain with a village at its base where people live. The DLC will involve unraveling the mysteries of the folktales that have been passed down in Kitakami.

The new Pokémon Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti are also reminiscent of characters in the famous Japanese folklore Momotaro, or Peach Boy. Okidoki has a dog-like design, Munkidori is similar to a monkey, and Fezandipiti looks like a pheasant. The Legendary Pokémon for Part 1: The Teal Mask, Ogerpon, also doesn’t look totally unlike an ogre making the ensemble resemble the dog, monkey, pheasant, and ogres that appear in Momotaro.

Information has also been revealed about Part 2: The Indigo Disk. In this DLC update, players will visit their academy’s sister school, Blueberry Academy, as an exchange student. Blueberry Academy is a recently built school that focuses on Pokémon battles. Additionally, most of the school is located under the ocean.

Together, both parts of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC will include over 230 Pokémon that didn’t appear in the base game of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. We’re looking forward to seeing the reveal of more information about the upcoming DLC.
