Speedrunner Distortion2 has broken his own Elden Ring speedrun record yet again, finishing the game in just 28 minutes and 59 seconds (in-game time) in the any% Wrong Warp category. He broke the 40 minutes mark just a few days ago on March 11, and now the record time is much shorter thanks to a new route in place.

Elden Ring takes dozens of hours to finish during a normal playthrough, but Distortion2, who also holds stellar speedrun records in other FromSoftware titles, managed to finish the game in just half an hour. His speedrun attempts center around using a glitch called Wrong Warp, which allows players to teleport to a location they shouldn’t be able to warp to. This technique is used to skip content and reach a late-game stage, the main area of Farum Azula.

In previous speedrun attempts, Distortion2 first had to unlock a fast travel point that meets the necessary condition to pull off the Wrong Warp glitch. However, his latest run skips the whole glitch preparation process and replaces it with a much faster method to create the same condition. Distortion2 still makes detours to collect items such as the Ash of War: Royal Knight’s Resolve and the Icerind Hatchet, though.

*the new method starts at 9:56 mark

The speedrunning aggregate site speedrun.com plans to open the Elden Ring speedrun category on March 18. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of insane records will show up on the leaderboards, including the category that prohibits the use of the Wrong Warp glitch.
