It looks like Granblue Fantasy: Versus is seeing its player population improving a bit. According to SteamDB, the game reached a concurrent player count of 1,238 players on December 14. The Steam version of Granblue Fantasy: Versus hasn’t seen its player count above 1,000 since Yuel was added to the game in December of 2020.

And in October and November of this year, the player count didn’t even reach above 200. While it’s not quite the 5,287 concurrent players the game saw at launch, Granblue Fantasy: Versus has pulled in over 1,000 concurrent players for the first time in a year.

There are a lot of reasons as to why the player population might have increased. On December 13, Ver 2.70 went live adding two new characters to the game (Vira and Avatar Belial), the game received some balance adjustments, and the price of the Standard Edition dropped $40.00.

The game’s Legendary Edition is also currently sitting at the number 2 spot of Steam’s Top Sellers list in Japan, so new players also appear to be on the rise.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a 2D fighting game based on Cygames’ Granblue Fantasy. The game currently has 24 playable characters and features a system where players can use skills with one button press making it a good introduction for fighting game beginners. The game also contains an action RPG mode with its own story.

In addition to two new characters, Ver 2.70 also brings balance changes to the already existing roster. Up to this point, players have expressed discontent with balance changes mostly making characters weaker. With this update, every character gets a buff which may be good news for players.

Coinciding with the update is also a price drop from $59.99 to $19.99 for the Standard Edition. A Legendary Edition that includes every character was also made available, and as previously mentioned, is currently number 2 on Steam’s Top Sellers list in Japan (and 26 worldwide). The Vira and Avatar Belial DLC character set is currently at the 17th spot, and the Standard Edition is ranking in at number 50.

And all these factors coming together at once appear to be leading to an increase in player count.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is currently available on PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam). The game’s official Twitter account is also holding a character survey until December 26, 6:59 a.m. (PST).
