1994 Street Fighter movie starring Van Damme is still a money maker, according to latest Capcom shareholder meeting

Reports from an attendee at the June 20 Capcom shareholder’s meeting revealed a few things about the company’s current situation. While news of Street Fighter 6’s success and the ongoing work on Capcom’s new REX engine is good to hear, the most interesting takeaway has to do with the 1994 Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, and Kylie Minogue. According to the shareholder’s meeting, the film continues to make tens of millions of yen each year to this day.

A rough adaptation of the events of Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter the movie follows a team of the world’s strongest fighters as they attempt to defeat the villainous M. Bison. Though the movie wasn’t well-received by critics, it was commercially successful and eventually became a cult classic amongst die-hard fans.

The number of Street Fighter movie viewers could potentially rise due to Street Fighter 6’s success and Capcom’s recent promotions for the film on social media, which advertise its availability on streaming platforms. Seeing as Legendary Pictures’ planned Street Fighter movie just lost its directors, fans can get their live-action fix by watching Raul Julia’s exceptional performance as M. Bison in the 1994 classic instead.
