Elden Ring players are disappointed by what’s behind Shadow of the Erdtree’s giant waterfalls

Shadow of the Erdtree’s release has prompted Elden Ring players to scour The Land of Shadow for secrets. While some areas lead to new discoveries, others lead to literal dead ends. Case in point: multiple explorable waterfalls are filled with messages from players who were disappointed to find out that there is nothing behind them.

Certain recurring locations in video games are known to hide things off the beaten path. These include under staircases, behind suspicious-looking walls, and of course, behind waterfalls. Elden Ring has these locations in abundance – prompting players to put their detective skills and video game experience to use.  We expect to find something behind a waterfall, and the need to check them has even been described as a curse.

One early-game waterfall can be found near the Church of Consolation, just southeast of the Gravesite Plain Site of Grace. A smaller waterfall can be found towards the north near the Castle Front Site of Grace. Sadly, most of Shadow of the Erdtree’s explorable waterfalls hold nothing worth mentioning. While items such as Dewgems and Silver Fireflies may be found dotted near the waterfalls’ bases, these are common enough that players can find them in other areas.

There is still a chance that these waterfalls are hiding something. It took quite a while for players to learn about the 50-hit illusory wall in Volcano Manor, after all. Perhaps with enough time and experimentation, Shadow of the Erdtree’s waterfalls will yield something for players other than disappointment.
