Steins;Gate’s studio unveils new “non-science” occult visual novel based on an in-house ghost story, set to release this winter

On August 27, MAGES announced their new visual novel Seeker Eye (Shikai).

Hot on the heels of Steins;Gate Re:Boot, Japanese studio MAGES has announced its brand-new supernatural suspense title Seeker Eye (Shikai) . Set to release this winter for the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in Japan, its themes are a drastic departure from the studio’s Science Adventure science fiction game series.

Seeker Eye (Shikai) takes cues from the 2024 MAGES ghost story “The House with the Red Roof,” which is featured on the studio’s official YouTube channel as part of the “Kaidanshi no Utage Talks Party” (Ghost Storyteller’s Banquet). Those who experience the story (which kicks off the game) become “infected with the supernatural,” and what starts off as a simple piece of media not only affects the characters, but the player as well, hinting at some possible fourth-wall breaking.

The game was conceptualized by Science Adventure series art director Fumihiro Kitahara, while the scenario was written by Steins;Gate 0 and Chaos;Child writer Ryo Yasumoto. Takeshi Abo (Steins;Gate, Memories Off) is composing the music, while Tatsuya Matsubara and Naotaka Hayashi (Steins;Gate, Steins;Gate 0, Chaos;Child) serve as supervising producers.

Seeker Eye (Shikai) is set to release in the winter for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. While the official webpage only shows cryptic messages for now, expect more details to be unveiled as the release date gets closer.
