Nitroplus has announced that Gen Urobuchi’s debut visual novel, Phantom of Inferno, will be released for Windows (Steam) on September 4. The upcoming version, titled “Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE,” features the same content from the 2013 remake for the Xbox 360 and PC, such as elements from the 2009 anime adaptation Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom.
Originally released in 2000 for Japanese PC players, Phantom of Inferno is a neo-noir visual novel that follows a young Japanese tourist in the United States who witnesses an assassination executed by the mysterious organization known as Inferno. After being kidnapped and stripped of his memories through drugs and hypnotherapy, the young boy is given the name “Zwei” and trained to become an assassin. Along with the organization’s deadliest assassin, Phantom, Zwei becomes proficient in the art of killing while learning more about Inferno and its secret agenda.

Nitroplus (under its Nitro Origin brand) first announced plans to release the Steam version of Phantom of Inferno in an X post on December 31, 2025. It also revealed plans to port other titles to Steam in the same post. Now that one of those promises is set to be fulfilled, fans of the studio’s works have a lot to look forward to.
Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE is set to release for Windows (Steam) on September 4. The game will support three languages: Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese. All voice acting will be exclusively in Japanese.
