PlayStation and Yoasobi to collaborate on 30th Anniversary song based on players’ gaming memories 

Yoasobi, the Japanese pop duo famous for songs such as the Oshi no Ko theme song “Idol” and “Yoru ni Kakeru”, is teaming up with PlayStation to celebrate the latter’s 30^th anniversary. The collaboration, titled “Project: MEMORY CARD,” will gather responses on social media site X to create Yoasobi’s latest single. 

Project: MEMORY CARD is based around the concept of saving everyone’s gaming memories into one song (much like how Memory Cards save game files on the PlayStation 1 and 2). The core theme is centered around memory; specifically which game you would like to relive playing for the first time if your memory was wiped. Yoasobi will be gathering responses and writing a song based on the answers people give. 

Yoasobi has chimed in on the collaboration, urging both PlayStation and Yoasobi fans to share their favorite games and memories. 

Fan feedback has been tremendous, with people citing PlayStation classics such as Ico, Gravity Rush, and even PaRappa the Rapper and Um Jammer Lammy. While some of the titles mentioned aren’t PlayStation exclusives (Fallout 4 and the Tales franchise, for example), this hasn’t stopped fans from listing their favorite games and gaming moments. I personally would like to relive former PlayStation exclusive Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for the first time (the game has since been ported to other platforms including Nintendo Switch and PC). 

The PlayStation brand has been home to video games for 30 years, and its vast library has allowed players to form their own memories. Even if they mention the same games, no two players will have the same experience. This is what PlayStation and Yoasobi want to capture in a song that will hopefully stand the test of time.  

PlayStation 30^th Anniversary celebrations also kicked off on PS5 today, with some nostalgic menu themes added in the latest update.
