Trails in the Sky series developer Nihon Falcom announced on September 16 that it has signed a licensing agreement with South Korean developer Neowiz (best known for publishing Lies of P) for its title The Legend of Heroes III: Shiroki Majo, also known as The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch in North America. Under the new agreement, the two companies will give the game a new release for PC and consoles, both in Japan and globally.
The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch is the third installment of Falcom’s long-running The Legend of Heroes series, released in 1994 for the PC-9801. The game is set in the world of Tirasweel, depicting the pilgrimage of a boy named Jurio and a girl named Chris. Together with The Legend of Heroes IV: Akai Shizuku (NA title: The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion) and The Legend of Heroes V: Umi no Oriuta (NA title: The Legend of Heroes III: Song of the Ocean) it forms the Gagharv trilogy – the predecessor to The Legend of Heroes: Trails series.
According to a survey conducted by Dengeki Online in 2021, the Gagharv trilogy took the first place in the category of “Titles you’d like to see on modern consoles,” which makes the comeback of The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch a very exciting one for fans. Development of the game’s revival with Neowiz is expected to start soon, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
On a related note, the game is currently available on Project EGG, a retro game distribution service developed by D4 Enterprises. The renewed edition of The Legend of Heroes III: Shiroki Majo was released in Japan in August 2026 as part of Project EGG’s Nintendo Switch initiative EGG Console.
