NieR: Automata developers working on fix after update accidentally raises Steam version’s file size from 50GB to 366GB

Square Enix has offered a workaround for installing the game in the meantime.

The Steam version of NieR: Automata received a major update on November 6 that added language support for Simplified and Traditional Chinese, as well as Korean. Unfortunately, it also introduced a bug that increased the game’s file size to a whopping 366.56GB. The official NieR PR X account has since acknowledged the increased file size and stated that the developers are currently working to resolve the issue.

We have confirmed an issue where, following the latest update to the Steam version of NieR: Automata, the installation process indicates that more storage space is required than expected.
We are currently investigating the cause and working on a solution. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
As a temporary workaround, you can download the base game by unchecking the DLC under Steam → Properties → DLC.

This is the first update for NieR: Automata on Steam in five years, with the previous one being released on July 15, 2021. While the exact cause of the bug is currently unknown, checking each of the game’s eight DLC requirements reveals that all of their file sizes have increased to the size of the base game. Combined with the main game, the total file size amounts to over 360GB.

Interestingly, the game and its DLCs only take up around 40~50GB when installed, with the 366GB requirement only being a prerequisite to install everything at once. If you want to download everything, a temporary solution would be to install the base game first (by unchecking all of the DLCs under Steam → Properties → DLC). Once completed, you can recheck the DLCs and download them without having to worry about their file size requirements.

NieR: Automata is available for PlayStation4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows (Steam and Microsoft Store).
