CaTHaRSiS: The Last of Atelier, a game where you step into the paintings of Van Gogh, Monet, and other renowned artists, to release on December 1
Demo out on Steam.

Japanese publisher Kodansha and solo game developer Mana have announced that CaTHaRSiS: The Last of Atelier will launch on December 1 for PC via Steam. Described as an immersive walking simulator, the game invites players to step directly into historical paintings by artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Delacroix, and Goya.
Rather than simply presenting the paintings for players to view, the game is built around the idea of experiencing the worlds within them. Player scontrol a nameless being who awakens in a featureless realm with no memory of their past. Guided by a mysterious voice and accompanied by two animal companions, the protagonist travels through ten worlds inspired by historical artworks while collecting memory fragments that reveal more about their past.

CaTHaRSiS: The Last of Atelier reinterprets renowned paintings as explorable spaces. Featured works include Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Café Terrace at Night, and Sunflowers; Claude Monet’s Woman with a Parasol; and Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss. The game features shifting perspectives depending on the painting being explored. While some stages are fully explorable 3D environments, others adopt side-scrolling gameplay or even place players aboard moving vessels. According to the game’s creators, these shifts in presentation are designed to make each artwork feel unique and better reflect the cthemes and artistic style of the source material.

In response to player feedback from the demo released on October 15, the full release of CaTHaRSiS: The Last of Atelier will include a dedicated photo mode. Players can pause the game, freely move the camera, adjust camera angles and brightness, and capture screenshots of various environments. Images can also be saved to an in-game album. The feature was added after players requested ways to “capture the environments in custom angles” and “recreate the composition of famous paintings.”
CaTHaRSiS: The Last of Atelier will launch on December 1 on PC (Steam) with English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese language support. A demo featuring three stages based on The Starry Night, Café Terrace at Night, and Ophelia is available now. However, the newly announced Photo Mode will be exclusive to the full release of the game.
