Video game publisher Phoenixx recently unveiled Kokoro Clover Infinite Phantasm, the latest entry in its Sunday morning anime-inspired Kokoro Clover series. The title, which blends visual novel and action game elements, will be available via Steam, with the release date TBD.
Following the conventions of actual Sunday morning anime, the main story of the game is structured in episodes, featuring dialogue-heavy visual novel bits that transition into action gameplay when the situation reaches its climax. Just like if you were watching it on TV, the game displays the time at the upper left corner of the screen, and it incorporates many other features that literally scream “anime” – opening and ending sequences for each episode, as well as eye-catchers sandwiched between the main portion of the game.
The world of the game itself is pretty wacky and in-tune with many anime tropes of the 2000s, including transformations, cards, robots, dancing, detectives, ninjas, dinosaurs, and an adventure that “goes on forever and always.”
While Kokoro Clover Season, the first series entry, featured short action stages and boss battles, its sequel Kokoro Clover SUN – Prehistoric Invaders! Focuses entirely on the boss battles. Infinite Phantasm will be following the latter’s game design, with the action portions of the game being centered around fighting bosses.
Kokoro Clover Infinite Phantasm is also bringing back the Boss Rush Arena mode, which lets you fully focus on the combat aspects of the game. On the other hand, players who only want to enjoy the story will be able to skip battles in the Story Mode and only focus on the visual novel parts.
Additionally, the game features a completely new theme song composed and performed by famous anison composer Hideaki Takatori, best known for making music for the Precure series, Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal II, The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage rhythm game, and numerous tokusatsu works.
Kokoro Clover Infinite Phantasm is in development for PC (Steam).
