Koei Tecmo’s Atelier Resleriana to end services in Japan on November 25

Koei Tecmo decided to shut down Atelier Resleriana as “it would be difficult to continue providing a service that would satisfy users.”

Koei Tecmo Games announced that it will end services for its free-to-play alchemy RPG Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator in Japan on November 25. Microtransactions, including sales of Paid Lodestar Gems, will be suspended starting August 27. This comes a year and a half after the global version of the game shut down in March 2025.

Atelier Resleriana was released in Japan for iOS and Android on September 23, 2023, followed by a Steam port and global version in early 2024. The game got off to a rocky start, as there was some controversy surrounding its initial paid gacha system. A set of 10 pulls was priced at roughly 6000 yen (about $40 USD at the time), drawing criticism from players – which prompted Koei Tecmo to revise the pricing almost immediately. On the other hand, Atelier Resleriana was positively received among fans, especially due to its wide cast of characters (which include many of the beloved alchemists from past titles), as well as its story spanning over 30 chapters.

According to the “Letter from the Development Team,” Koei Tecmo ultimately decided to shut down the game as “it would be difficult to continue providing a service that would satisfy users.” On a brighter note, the 33rd chapter, depicting Resna and her companions as they reached the End of the Continent, was also added to the game, with a special anniversary website scheduled to launch on September 23 alongside a new story chapter not covered in the main game.
