D3 Publisher announced on August 25 that Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 in 2027. An updated version of Earth Defense Force 6 (which was released for PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as PC, in 2022 for Japan and 2024 globally), it includes enhanced visuals, increased enemy density, weapon customization, and a brand-new enemy species.
Earth Defense Force 6.2’s PS5 optimization has allowed the devs to improve the graphics and increase the number of onscreen enemies by more than double the amount of Earth Defense Force 6. Aside from the enemies featured in the original (both in the base game and DLC), a new species that resembles giant mushrooms will be making an appearance in the game. In addition, more than half of the original missions are being restructured and rebalanced.

To make fighting these threats easier and more satisfying, a weapon customization system has been added. You can obtain weapon enhancements from defeated enemies, which allow you to customize your loadout to your preferred playstyle.

Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World is the second game in the series to feature a decimal in its title, with the first being 2015’s Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair. An updated version of Earth Defense Force 2025, The Shadow of New Despair features improvements to gameplay and new story elements that were not present in the original. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World could follow in its decimal-numbered predecessor’s footsteps.
Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World is set to release in 2027 for PlayStation 5. A demo of the game will also be playable at this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2026.
