In preparation for the upcoming Dark Arisen expansion that releases on October 9, Capcom has announced two massive updates for Dragon’s Dogma 2 – the first of which was released today. Several long mouse scrolls’ worth of bug fixes and improvements have been implemented, with a core focus on fast travel. Users have also rejoiced to see the addition of Free Camera for Photo Mode, additional save slots, and other QoL features.
Making its return from Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is the Eternal Ferrystone, which allows you to teleport to any active Portcrystal on the map an infinite number of times. It is automatically awarded after talking to Brant during the Seat of the Sovran quest. Those who have already completed the quest will find the item in their inventory. Unlike regular Ferrystones, which have a single use and are quite difficult to obtain (you can buy them from select stores in limited quantities for a whopping 10,000 Gold), the Eternal Ferrystone can be obtained fairly early by following the main story, allowing you to more easily travel through the world.
To make fast travel even easier, new Portcrystals have been added to a few key areas, namely Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and Volcanic Island Camp. You’ll even get a Portcrystal to place anywhere in the world after completing the quest Monster Culling, which takes place after Seat of the Sovran. As with the Eternal Ferrystone, completing the quest beforehand automatically places the Portcrystal in your inventory.
Those who have yet to reach the Seat of the Sovran quest can make do with the new Oxcart Stopovers. You can quickly travel to major locations by Oxcart, but time will still pass (unlike fast travelling with Ferrystones). Capcom has also made improvements to the Oxcart system, reducing the time before you can doze off (quickening the travel process), extending departure hours, and displaying nearby Oxcarts on the mini map. For those who prefer to hoof it on foot, the devs also decreased the stamina needed to dash when outside of combat.
Dragon’s Dogma’s second big update is set to release at the end of August, and will focus more on game engine improvements and adjustments. This includes improvements to game performance, the limiting save system, and the UI. Adjustments to Dragonsplague, action, Pawns, and enemies are planned, as are the usual string of bug fixes.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows (Steam). A Nintendo Switch 2 version is set to release alongside the Dark Arisen expansion on October 9.
