SNK Entertainment was officially dissolved as of August 20, as reported in Japan’s government gazette (source: GameBiz).
SNK Entertainment was a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNK Corporation founded in 2016. The company operated as a contract developer, mainly for games and video and graphic production. It also engaged in licensing business surrounding SNK’s library of intellectual properties, as well as other related online and digital entertainment businesses. According to Game Industry Biz, the subsidiary was launched in an effort to “bring back SNK’s dormant IPs and serve as a starting point for development of new SNK digital content, collaborations, and merchandise.”
However, in June 2022, a significant portion of SNK Entertainment’s game and content development, sales, marketing, and licensing businesses was transferred to SNK through an absorption-type corporate split.
Apparently, the company has been effectively dormant since the absorption-type split, so the newly announced dissolution is not expected to have much impact on SNK’s business.
