Shibuya Scramble Stories director Jiro Ishii can’t seem to catch a break. As if the game’s Ubgoe crowdfunding campaign issues, which resulted in the team missing around half of its total proceeds earlier this year, wasn’t enough, the man himself has been in the hospital on an emergency basis since last week. In an X post, Ishii apologized for any concern his condition might have caused and said he hopes to return to work by the end of the month.
Ishii was particularly sorry for being hospitalized during such an important time for the Shibuya Scramble Stories project. The first phase of the game’s second crowdfunding campaign is currently running on Campfire, scheduled to close at the end the month. The project surpassed its initial target goal of 10 million JPY (roughly $62 thousand USD) after only 62 minutes, and currently has $162 thousand USD in funding. He attributed the success of the campaign to his staff and cast, all of whom are working hard in his absence.
While Ishii won’t return to work until the end of July at the earliest, he humbly asks fans to continue supporting the game and its crowdfunding campaign. Until then, fans are wishing for his quick recovery and hope to see him soon.
Shibuya Scramble Stories is currently in development. You can find more about the game on its official webpage.
