Persona 3 Reload player accidentally spawns Satan in freak Fusion accident
Atlus released Persona 3 Reload worldwide on February 2. The game has earned a great response from the community so far, selling a million copies in only a week. Players have been sharing various moments from the game on social media, but one person’s video of how they accidentally acquired Satan, one of the highest-level Personas in the game, is particularly astonishing. The incident has sparked a lot of curiosity about fusion failure and how it works.
Reddit user u/Flamerock51 shared this video of them attempting to fuse a level 13 Tam Lin through special fusion, only to end up with Satan, a powerful level 82 Persona. But how does one accidentally summon Satan? It’s all due to what’s known as a fusion accident. In Persona 3 Reload, persona fusion works as simply as it always has – by combining two or more personas (depending on fusion type) to create a new, more powerful one.
However, as revealed in-game, fusion is influenced by the phase of the moon – the skills a Persona will inherit through fusion will depend on the current moon phase. Furthermore, fusing on a New Moon can lead to increased chances of a fusion accident occurring. These accidents are random, and so are their results – you can end up with either a downgrade or an upgrade.
Naturally, most people who experience fusion failures do not have the freak luck of creating a Persona more than 50 levels higher than intended. In fact, the majority of players seem to have bitter memories of losing solidly strong Personas to a fusion accident, ending up with a Level 1 Orpheus or similar.
This is why saving your game before fusing might not be a bad idea. On the other hand, some players are tempted to save-spam until they encounter a winning-fusion accident, which is also a fun approach (albeit with low odds). When accidents happen, you will not be able to skip the fusion animation, which is how you’ll know you’re in for one. For reference, in Persona 3, the odds for a fusion accident were 1/64 for Normal (equivalent to Dyad Fusion in Reload) and 1/32 for Triangle fusion (equivalent to Special Fusion in Reload). It is not clear if these odds are the same in Reload or not.
Persona 3 Reload is available for the PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Microsoft Office) and can be played via Game Pass.
