Ahead of the release of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve on October 2, Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Project Aces dev team has deployed the growing industry standard spoiler prevention message. While the message doesn’t contain any striking information (players are asked to indicate spoilers in any relevant content they post online), a follow-up message asked fans to extend the same spoiler-free practices toward the 20-year-old Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, which has garnered some amused reactions among fans.
Originally released as a PlayStation 2 exclusive in 2006, Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War is the last game in the series developed by Namco before its merger with Bandai. A modern port of the game is being released as a pre-order exclusive for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, alongside the F-14A playable jet. While there is no confirmation about whether The Belkan War’s story is connected to Wings of Theve, perhaps Bandai Namco Entertainment wants to keep the experience fresh for all newcomers, in anticipation that the latest entry will be many players’ introduction to the series. Still, the unusual request had Japanese players asking “How do I watch out for spoilers of a 20-year-old game?”
The Wings of Theve devs seem to have a knack for nostalgia, as it was confirmed that the game’s Season 1 will include playable versions of Pac-Man, Galaga, Rally-X, and Dragon Spirit in its online lobby.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is scheduled to release on October 2 for Windows (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X❘S.
