Upcoming Japanese indie roguelite presents new challenge for Dark Souls fans

On December 1, Japanese indie developer YousukouTV announced their plans to release Deep Death Dungeon Darkness on December 25. The soulslike action game will be available in 12 languages including English. The new trailer offers a glimpse of a world inspired by the Arabian Nights and Ancient Egyptian civilization.

The player takes on the role of an assassin who is sworn to protect a sun priestess. Unfortunately, she has been captured by Anubis, the god of the underworld, who wants her power and has imprisoned her in his Labyrinth of Death. You must navigate the various challenges of the labyrinth and defeat its formidable foes to rescue the priestess.

Deep Death Dungeon Darkness is a roguelite action game that will feature a soulslike combat system. In navigating the labyrinth’s 8 levels, you will have to overcome various enemies and bosses while avoiding traps. The placement of all these elements is randomized in each playthrough. Adding to the game’s difficulty are permadeath and a no-save system, meaning that you have to restart from the beginning if you die.

Players will be able to hone their combat strategy by developing various skills such as weapon-based attacks, magic, parrying and invincibility rolls. Spirits obtained from battling enemies can be used to strengthen your stats or buy items. There is also a stamina gauge, which seems similar to the one in the Dark Souls games. As shown in the trailer, it appears that the protagonist will also have a rope that he can use to swing between platforms at high speeds.

Deep Death Dungeon Darkness’s development started around 2022. The game won an excellence award in the No Demo category of Game Creator’s Camp: Game BBQ Vol. 2, a contest run by the publisher Shueisha.

Deep Death Dungeon Darkness is scheduled for release on December 25 for the PC (Steam).
