Japanese roguelite hack and slash title based on Mystery Dungeon series and Diablo released
Mistrogue: Mist and the Living Dungeons by Japanese developer Polyscape officially released on October 27 (JST). The game is available for the PC (Steam) at a price of $12.99 but will be on a 35% discount until November 3.
Mistrogue: Mist and the Living Dungeons is a 3D roguelite action game in which players challenge randomized dungeons while creating unique skill builds. The game is set in the “Living Dungeons” that constantly change form. The main character, Mist, is a young man searching for his father who disappeared when he was a child. Mist comes from Lootgar, a town where treasure hunters gather, and he braves the dungeons alone, eager to uncover their mysteries. The elements of exploration and battle in a living dungeon are homage to the Mystery Dungeon series.
As Mist, you use the equipment and skills you acquire to tackle the dungeons. Each time you challenge a dungeon, its structure changes and the level is reset. On the other hand, you are allowed to bring items into the dungeon, and the way to advance further is by enhancing your equipment. Each piece of equipment has its own set of skills, which carry different effects. You can also customize your equipment by adding skills into the empty skill slots.
The game also introduces Synergy between skills as an important strategy element. For example, the active skill “Haste” increases the speed of your movement temporarily when used. By itself, it only boosts your speed for a short period of time, but if you combine it with the passive skill “Thief’s Soul,” you get an increase in attack power proportional to the increase in speed. In Mistrogue, how you decide to go about skill building impacts your success in the dungeons greatly.
Mistrogue is the debut title of Polyscape, a startup Japanese developer. According to the crowdfunding campaign page from March 2023, the game also takes influence from Shiren the Wanderer 2 and Diablo, borrowing its hack and slash elements. Having officially released on October 27 (JST), the game currently has a Mostly Positive status out of 73 reviews on Steam.
Mistrogue: Mist and the Living Dungeons is currently available for the PC (Steam) for $12.99. The game can be purchased at a 35% discount until November 3.
