Kagura Games has announced that the Steam version of Sengoku Rance will be releasing on October 2, as part of the US publisher’s efforts to bring the franchise to the platform. The game supports English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, and is the first of many Rance titles scheduled to come to Steam. Ports of Rance 01 + 02, Rance 03, Rance IV, Rance IX, Rance X, and Rance Quest Magnum are slated to arrive at later dates.
One of developer AliceSoft’s best-selling games and a fan-favorite, Sengoku Rance was originally released as a Japan exclusive in 2006 and is the seventh game in the long-running Rance series of eroge RPGs. Set in medieval Japan during the Sengoku (Warring States) period, you take control of Rance as he unites Japan by commanding the famous Oda clan (entrusted to him by an ailing Oda Nobunaga). Considering this is an eroge, Rance’s ulterior motive has him pursuing intimate relations with as many beautiful Japanese women as possible.
Sengoku Rance’s gameplay revolves around managing armies, famous historical heroes, resources, and territories, all of which contribute to the turn-based combat. The story unfolds between fights, with the overall direction changing based on your choices and playstyle. With several branching paths and endings tied to different clans and battle outcomes, the game incentivizes you to play it multiple times to see everything. Some progress from previous playthroughs can be carried over, making succeeding runs less repetitive.
It’s worth noting that while the Steam version of Sengoku Rance is not listed as an adult game (the Steam page only warns for “non-explicit sexual content”), publisher Kagura Games generally offers off-platform patches that restore any explicit content for those who wish to play it.
