Japanese development company Level-5, known for the Inazuma Eleven and Yo-kai Watch series, issued a statement regarding piracy of their video games on May 13.
According to the announcement, the company has recently confirmed instances of unauthorized reproduction and distribution of their games across “certain online communities,” warning that it would take legal action against any acts that constitute copyright infringement. This includes reproduction, modification, editing, distribution or selling of Level-5’s game software without permission.
While the company doesn’t give any further details on the copyright violations in question, many suspect the announcement could be related to a fan made project which recently made rounds on X, attracting the attention of both international and Japanese fans. Announced via a now defunct account on May 10, the project was supposed to be a full unofficial Spanish remake of Yo-Kai Watch 2 for Switch, mobile, PC, and VR, created from scratch in Unity. However, the announcement was met with harsh criticism from the Japanese side of the community due to legal implications. Judging by Level-5’s recent statement and the removal of the original poster’s account, it seems very unlikely that development of the remake will continue.
