Dungeon-crawler JRPG Wizardry Variants Daphne has begun its Final Fantasy XI collaboration event, titled “Fantasy Castle of Deepest Dark.” The collab, which will run until September 10 at 3:59 AM UTC, features familiar characters from Square Enix’s popular MMORPG (three of which are recruitable as adventurers), a unique dungeon, a new story, and exclusive equipment and items.
The story centers around an “ill-omened castle” that suddenly appeared in Northern Hollow. The local lord’s sons attempted to scout it, only for the castle to suddenly disappear. With the sons nowhere to be found, you are tasked with finding the whereabouts of the castle and (hopefully) the missing royals.
After reaching a certain point in the Beginning Abyss, you gain access to a limited-time event that becomes available in the Royal Capital Luknalia (the event lasts until the end of the collab). There you can exchange a unique item with the Man Scavenging Bones NPC for one collab or legendary adventurer of your choice.
Three Final Fantasy XI adventurers can be recruited: Prishe, Iroha, and Zeid. The three legendary adventurers available are Red Beard, Arboris, and Glintblade.
While this specific reward is available only once, logging in and completing limited-time missions during the collab awards you with several in-game items, including more chances to obtain the FFXI adventurers. Relic Weapons have also been added, which are collab-exclusive pieces of equipment that can be bought and reforged into stronger variants.
Wizardry Variants Daphne is available for Windows (Steam), iOS, and Android. The Fantasy Castle of Deepest Dark Final Fantasy XI collab event runs until September 10 at 3:59 AM UTC.
