After discussing Deltarune Chapter 1-4‘s different purchase options and details at length, Toby Fox has finally started showing more gameplay footage from the title’s new chapters. While his first clip shows Kris blowing on what looks like piles of dust, the second clip is more substantial, as it shows a new enemy type within the game’s combat system.
The “Guei” is a ghost-type monster motivated by exercise. As Kris, you can command Ralsei to use “Xercism,” which causes the party to encourage all the Guei to work out (the “Exercism” ACT does the same thing on a single Guei). Commanding Susie to use her S-Action allows her to tell the Guei a story about the living dead, whereupon the monsters start exclaiming in Chinese that they are ghosts.
As with all enemies in Deltarune, the Guei can be spared after executing specific actions. In this case, encouraging the Guei to work out will cause them to attack. After dodging their attacks in Deltarune’s bullet hell sections, the Guei will become Tired, whereupon the party can spare them and move on with their adventure.
The Guei speaking Chinese isn’t a translation error but a manifestation of Toby Fox’s unique brand of weird, which is present in Deltarune’s new chapters. In addition to the Deltarune Chapters 1-4’s heartfelt main story, be ready to expect random moments like this.
Deltarune Chapters 1-4 is set to release on June 5 for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PC (macOS and Windows), and PlayStation 4 and 5.
