Supercell leader Ryo reflects on band’s return after 7 years for the Witch on the Holy Night movie

The band will also be reuniting with singer Yanaginagi for the first time in 15 years.

The final trailer for Type-Moon and Ufotable’s Witch on the Holy Night anime film adaptation has revealed that doujin band Supercell and guest vocalist Yanaginagi (previously known as “nagi”) have reunited to perform the movie’s theme song “Yoru to Ao” (“Night and Blue”). The reunion marks 15 years since Yanaginagi’s departure from Supercell, and 7 years since the band’s last music release.

Supercell is a collective band led by musician and songwriter Ryo. The main group consists of 11 members who, with the exception of Ryo, are all artists and designers who work on illustrations for album booklets and music videos.

Frontman Ryo shared a heartfelt message to his fans on via Note. He reminisced about the Witch on the Holy Night 2012 visual novel, for which the band created the ending theme song “Hoshi ga Matataku Konna Yoru ni.” At the time, Type-Moon was growing increasingly popular thanks to visual novel hits like Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, so Supercell was ecstatic that they would be contributing to the studio’s latest game.

Fast-forward 15 years later, and Ryo is happy that the band is able to deliver its newest song since 2019’s “Love,” which was used as the theme song for the animated movie Cencoroll. The new song, “Yoru to Ao,” was finished toward the end of July 2026, with him tweaking details like the lyrics, guitar volume, and hi-hat sounds all the way toward the deadline. According to Ryo, this cumulative refinement process holds the “true meaning” behind the band’s relaunch.

The Witch on the Holy Night film will premiere on November 20 in Japanese theaters, followed by worldwide cinema screenings starting January 2027.
