Aniplex announced on August 31 that it would take over as the publisher of Fate/Extra Record, a dungeon crawler developed by Type-Moon Studio BB (Notes Co. Ltd.).
Fate/Extra Record is a remake of Type-Moon’s dungeon crawler RPG Fate/Extra, which released for PlayStation Portable in 2010. The game was announced in 2020 and originally scheduled to launch in 2025. However, the launch date ended up being postponed for the following year, and then delayed once more after its original publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment decided to step down from the role in March 2026.
However, despite Bandai Namco Entertainment stepping down from the publishing deal, the project’s development itself hadn’t been cancelled. Considering that Notes has now secured Aniplex as the new publisher, it seems like we might get a new release date for the game soon.
As of August 31, Fate/Extra Record has a new official website and X account, now managed by Aniplex. The old social media accounts for the title are scheduled to shut down on September 7. More information about the game will be announced the following month.
Additionally, on its official website, Notes has revealed that it has made some changes to the organizational structure of the development team and Type-Moon Studio BB.
Most notably, it was announced that director Niino Kazuya, who also directed the original Fate/Extra from 2010, would be stepping down from development, resigning from his position as the director, and leaving Type-Moon Studio BB altogether. According to his wishes, he will not be credited on the game once it’s released.
On his X account, Niino apologized to fans for “not being able to fulfill his duties as a director,” but said that he is confident the rest of the development team will be able to deliver an excellent game.
