Spike Chunsoft reports steady annual growth thanks to Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE and Shiren the Wanderer 6

Spike Chunsoft brings some good news amidst the game industry’s increasingly harsh conditions – the company reported a yearly boost in net profit by 3.8% in the past fiscal year (April 1, 2023 – March 31, 2024). The financial statements were published on July 28 via Japan’s government gazette and reported on by GameBiz

In the past fiscal year, Japanese game developer and publisher Spike Chunsoft saw a net profit of 793 million yen, recording a new record in over a decade. This was also the company’s third consecutive year of growth. According to Kadokawa Corporation, Spike Chunsoft’s parent company, the titles Master Detective Archives: Rain Code and Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island made significant contributions to profits.

Written by acclaimed Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka, the adventure game Master Detective Archives: Rain Code was released in June 2023 and is slated for an enhanced 4K rerelease in October this year. Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island, the sixth main entry of Spike Chunsoft’s long-running series, was released in February this year after an 8-year gap in the series. It seems both titles were a commercial success for the company.

Other titles released by Spike Chunsoft in the past fiscal year include the Japanese localizations of ARK: Survival Ascended, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.

  1. Absolutely great news because Rain Code was definitely a title nobody was expecting and everyone was happy to hear Kadoka was back including me. Judging by the releases with Natsu-Mon I do think they will keep growing. It’s interesting because Spike Chunsoft has had some quality releases overall in Visual Novels, and also the narrative experiences that really show variety in an industry that is becoming generic in my viewpoint. Hopefully someday they can bring over the Infinity Remake in English to the West when it’s ready, potentially along with My Merry May, even if it’s a long shot.
