Fans of Mobile Police Patlabor (“Patlabor” for short) will be glad to know that the upcoming Patlabor the Case Files action-adventure title covers Patlabor: The TV Series (1989), the Patlabor: The New Files OVA, Patlabor: The Movie, and Patlabor 2: The Movie (source: Dengeki Online). In addition to the Main Missions, where you play as members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Special Vehicle Section 2, Division 2 and their mechs in iconic scenes, the “Another Side Missions” allow you to control adversaries such as the AV-X0 Type Zero Patlabor.
According to producer Masanori Sato, the Another Side Missions were created as a way for players to control the rogue AV-X0 Type Zero from Patlabor: The Movie and the AFH-028 Hellhound from Patlabor 2: The Movie. Though it remains to be seen if these missions include unique scenarios where the villains win, the devs wanted to create something unique that can only be experienced by playing the game.
Developed by Chime and published by Good Smile Company, Patlabor the Case Files is a story-driven 3D action game developed around the concept of reliving iconic scenes from the franchise. Over 20 Labors are playable, including the AV-98 Ingram, Type-J9 Griffon, and AV-X0 Type Zero. While the game features a Simulator Mode that lets you practice your shooting skills and Labor Duels, there are currently no plans for multiplayer.
Patlabor the Case Files is set to release sometime in 2026 for Windows (Steam) and PlayStation 5.
