Nihon Falcom unveils new Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter info, including comeback of weaponized culinary failures

Trails in The Sky 2nd Chapter, the 3D remake of Trails in the Sky SC, is set to release globally on September 17.

There’s only three months left until Nihon Falcom launches Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, their full-fledged 3D remake of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC. Slated for a global release on September 17, the game is a direct sequel to Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, continuing the story of Estelle’s journey through Liberl as she sets to discover the whereabouts of her partner Joshua.

Ahead of the release, Nihon Falcom revealed some more details about the upcoming game, including new characters, Arts, and game mechanics. Specifically, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter will expand the series’ cooking system with some additional features, like the battle-ready “Attack Recipes.”

Just like in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, cooking can be done from the Recipe Notebook, with different dishes offering different kinds of buffs and effects. Knowing which dishes to prepare before a big showdown can definitely help turn the tide of battle in your favor. Of course, depending on how good of a cook you are, you may end up with a “Successful,” or “Peculiar” dish, varying in stats and the kinds of buffs they give you.

However, if your dish results in a failure in Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, there is a chance you end up with an “attack dish,” which can be used as a way to deal damage to enemies in Command Battles. The “attack dishes” do not consume any CP (Craft Points) or EP (Energy Points) on use, so those crusty, hard-rock cookies may actually be what saves you when you’re in a pinch.

When it comes to Quick Battles, using certain dishes from the main menu lets you power yourself up with many different buffs, like gradual HP recovery or increased damage dealt, during the course of the fight. If you switch over to Command Battle while the Quick Battle effects from dishes are still active, they will last for up to 2 turns.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is set to release on September 17, for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.
