Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will retain most of the Easter eggs and gimmicks found in the original

With the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in full swing, production producer Noriaki Okamura and creative producer Yuji Korekado talked about the changes between the new game and the 2004 original title in a recent Famitsu interview. While graphical improvements and the inclusion of a “New Style” camera were mentioned, series fans will be happy to know that most of the Easter eggs and gimmicks will be returning.

According to Korekado, items such as the game magazines strewn around urban areas (or at least the Famitsu ones from the original Japanese release), edible Calorie Mate cookies, and the out-of-place Kerotan cartoon frogs will be making a comeback. Speaking of the Kerotan frogs, Korekado states that while their locations remain the same, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s hittable frogs will be camouflaged. Considering many players will be using the “New Style” third-person perspective, this was done to make finding the frogs more difficult.

Accompanying the Kerotan frogs are new GA-KO collectible ducks which serve the same purpose as their froggy friends. Players can hit the ducks up close or shoot them from afar, and they will sport the same camouflage as the Kerotan frogs. Hitting the GA-KO ducks will cause them to repeatedly quack, much like how hitting the Kerotan frogs causes them to croak. Korekado says that there are rewards for hitting all the GA-KO and Kerotan figures in the game, and he looks forward to fans discovering what they are.

Metal Gear Solid Delta MGS3 Camo system overhaul

The last thing Korekado talked about regarding gimmicks had to do with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s camouflage system. While the original title forced you to pause the game to switch outfits, the remake will also include a “quick function” that allows for on-the-fly camouflage swapping. This allows players to quickly match their camouflage to the surrounding environment without having to break their immersion. Korekado says that there will be more features within this quick function system, such as being able to speedily swap to newly acquired camo to see how they look on Snake.

It remains to be seen whether Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will include some of the stranger Easter eggs found in the original, such as the Guy Savage playable nightmare sequence or Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence’s Secret Theater gag shorts. Hopefully, more of these Easter eggs will be revealed as the game nears its release date, which has yet to be disclosed.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be available on PS5, Windows and Xbox Series X|S, release date TBA.
