Japanese publisher DANGEN Entertainment and Nanairo Enterprise have announced LitGirls: Bookbound Dungeons, a new dungeon crawler RPGplanned to be released in the first half of 2027 for PC (Steam). Console versions are set to be announced at a later date.
The main twist of LitGirls: Bookbound Dungeons comes as simply as the name implies – in that the game’s dungeon-crawling party members are all inspired by literary classics such as Alice in Wonderland, Romeo and Juliet, Dante’s Inferno, and The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe. Exploring book-inspired dungeons, players must fight their way out of increasingly dangerous expeditions whilst managing precious resources and making decisions on the fly.

Taking a page out of similar titles in the genre such as Darkest Dungeon, LitGirls: Bookbound Dungeons features a mental health value called Pathos, separate from the more conventional HP value. Taking too many hits in succession will reduce the girl’s HP and Pathos, which is represented by their clothes and armor being stripped away.
Low Pathos can gradually interfere with their ability to fight or act in certain ways, with the trailer showing one of the party members affected firing off a spell that damages herself and her allies instead of the enemy. Balancing the two values will be key in surviving expeditions, lest the girls suffer a complete mental breakdown tantamount to death.

LitGirls: Bookbound Dungeons is created by Nanairo Enterprise, the developers behind the similarly risqué roguelike tower defense shooter title Turret Girls. Notably, Raven, one of the playable characters in that game, reappears in LitGirls: Bookbound Dungeons as a party member. The game additionally features music composed by Yoshitaka Hirota, whose most notable works include the soundtrack to the Shadow Hearts series.
LitGirls: Bookbound Dungeon is set to launch in the first half of 2027 on Steam, available in English, Japanese, and Chinese (Traditional/Simplified), with additional language support to be added in the future. The release of the game’s console versions will be announced later.
An 18+ version is planned for PC on a separate storefront, with details to be announced in the future.
