Koei Tecmo’s studio Gust just unveiled the release date and a brand-new trailer for Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories, the newest mainline entry in the long-running alchemy RPG series. The game is officially set to release on February 25, for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.
Set two years after the events of Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land, Atelier Karia follows the story of the amnesiac adventurer Karia. With the land’s mana slowly dwindling away, the continent of Aladiss is faced with a crisis called the Mana Withering. This is when Karia will have her fated encounter with the arts of “alchemy,” and set the new story in motion. Atelier Karia is positioned as a mainline entry and sequel to Atelier Yumia, but it can be played without prior knowledge of the series, as a standalone title.
The trailer showcases two new characters appearing in the game’s story – Noelk Schreiber and Celes. Noelk is an inspector dispatched by the Eustellan Bureau of Alchemy Relic Control, with the mission to crack down on the use of alchemy and report any violators. He is also a skilled archeologist with a knack for deciphering ancient scripts. Celes is a stoic woman, living in a mansion based in a settlement discovered in the underground world of Noctrem. She excels at swordplay and martial arts, and is also skilled in cooking and brewing tea. However, despite her cool and dignified appearance, there is also a quirky side to her.

The trailer also introduces the “Colossal Enemy” battles, in which Karia and her team will have to face a giant monster in two phases. In the Frontline Team Phase, the characters will be directly battling the Colossal Enemy, while in the Assault Team Phase, you’ll have your characters run around the field, using cannons and other different mechanics to support the characters who are directly engaging with the giant monsters. The two phases will unfold interchangeably, and if both teams complete the goals of their respective phases, they can significantly weaken the enemy.
As for some of the new mechanics, Karia’s hearty appetite allows her to eat pretty much anything, and she gains special abilities if she eats certain items during battles or exploration. Depending on the items she eats, Karia will be able to perform a Style Change, transforming both her appearance and abilities. For example, the Ignis Style will make all of Karia’s skills fire-based, boost her attack damage, and have her specialize in close-range battles. On the other hand, the Mermaid Style is best suited for dealing ice-based damage from a further range.
